LJP Cyber Classes

        TWO NEW CYBER CLASS OFFERINGS:

                    "Garden Gate"

is a 6" x 8" counted canvaswork design stitched on moss green 24 ct. Congress Cloth.

Do you like to create fantasy gardens?  I do.  There is only one way I can have the rose-covered arbor of my dreams --
by stitching it, of course!  The bricks, grass, bushes, delphiniums, and azaleas (or impatiens) are all worked with
subtle variegated ThreadworX threads combined with solid color floss  to create a perfect, bug-free garden.
The climbing roses are stitched with a softly opalescent Ribbon Floss thread as well, so they actually glisten
with tiny dewdrops.  This garden fantasy features:

    --  Variegated ThreadworX floss, along with
    --  DMC floss for blending colors as well as all the leaf work;
    --  #5 pearl cotton for the fence and arbor;
    --  a Ribbon Floss metallic thread for the climbing roses;
    --  two color choices for the roses and bush flowers -- pink or yellow;
    -- an optional "Welcome" script along the bottom edge of the design.

KITS

A full kit will include:
    -  threads mentioned above
    -  12" x 12" piece of 24 ct. moss green Congress Cloth
    -  #22 & #24 tapestry needles
    -  pattern with full text instructions and color graphs and photos

The kit WILL NOT INCLUDE stretcher bars or scroll bars.

Full Kit Price:  $65.00

REGISTRATION PERIOD:      May 15, 2011 thru June 15, 2011

KITS SENT OUT:  mid-July 2011

CYBER CLASS STARTS:  July 25, 2011, running 3-4 weeks.

CLASS INFO:  I estimate this will be a 4 week class.  E-mail lessons will be sent out
once a week and will include extra tips, notes, color & design discussions, up-close photos of the
stitches you will be creating in your piece, and anything else I can think of that relates to this project.

"GARDEN GATE" is a blend of counted canvaswork (the fence, arbor, grass and brickwork) with
randomly worked embellishment stitches (french knots, bullion stitches, lazy daisy stitches), so I rate this
project as an intermediate piece. The stitcher needs to feel comfortable with stitching "randomly" inside
each flower area, as well as on top of other stitched areas.  The stitcher will need to rely on her own
"designing eye" in placing the numbers of stitches that make up the flowers in this garden, which requires
embellishing beyond the estimates/suggestions shown on the graphs.

It is certainly helpful to have some experience stitching on canvas (we will be working on the finer 24 ct.
Congress Cloth) and it is especially essential to have a familiarity with counting and
stitching from a counted canvaswork graph for the fence, arbor, walkway, lawn and bushes.

            "PETUNIAS: Shadow Stitching"

is a 6" x 6.5" design stitched on a white18 ct. canvas that I've printed up exclusively for my cyber stitchers,
using one of my many floral photographs.

If you've been curious about trying shadow stitching on a painted canvas, this small project may be just the
right beginning project.  I've adapted some of my favorite flower pictures and printed them up to play with
all sorts of shadow stitch techniques. And as you can see, I've added a few fun borders around each design
to give them an extra punch of color.

This first design (in what I hope to be a series of shadow stitch canvases) uses:

    --  Splendor silk threads ( I found DMC floss to be too thin, so I'm much happier with the look of silk.
        Since shadow stitching uses very little thread, you will receive partial skeins of the required silks;
        to keep kit costs down as much as possible.)
    --  #5 pearl cotton for the padded borders;
    --  a metallic ribbon thread for a little "bling" in the borders.

KITS

A full kit will include:
    -  threads mentioned above
    -  8.5" x 10" piece of 18 ct. white mono canvas, printed with petunia image
    -  #22 & #24 tapestry needles
    -  pattern with full text instructions and color graphs and photos

The kit WILL NOT INCLUDE stretcher bars or scroll bars.

Full Kit Price:  $60.00

REGISTRATION PERIOD:      May 15, 2011 thru June 15, 2011

KITS SENT OUT:  end of June 2011 - beginning of July 2011

CYBER CLASS STARTS:  July 15, 2011, running 3-4 weeks.

CLASS INFO:  I estimate this will be a 4 week class.  E-mail lessons will be sent out
once a week and will include extra tips, notes, color & design discussions, up-close photos of the
stitches you will be creating in your piece, and anything else I can think of that relates to this project.

"PETUNIAS" is not a difficult project, and the stitches are easy to do, so I rate this project
as a beginner-to-slightly-intermediate piece. Since each printed canvas will be slightly different, the
stitcher needs to feel comfortable with compensating as needed in the border counts, as well as being
flexible about stitching "randomly" inside each flower area.  If stitching without a graph makes you nervous,
this small project may be just the way to overcome your anxiety and learn a new technique.  Stitching without
graphs is one of the techniques of shadow stitching, and it may seem scary at first to just pick a place and
start stitching, but once you start you'll find your fears melting away and you'll enjoy the freedom of free-form
stitching. It's fun -- really.... It is certainly helpful to have some experience stitching on canvas (we will
be working on 18 ct. mono canvas) and it is especially essential to have a familiarity with counting and
stitching from a counted canvaswork graph for the borders and shadow patterns.

You will notice on the registration form that I have asked you for your SKYPE address, if you currently
have one. SKYPE is free (visit www.Skype.com to sign up) -- you just need to have a webcam and
microphone attached to your computer (webcams are relatively cheap and can be plugged externally
into a free USB port on your computer).

I've done a little bit of Skyping with some of my stitching friends, and it is so fun!  It occurred to me that
maybe we can fit some "Skype sessions" into our Cyber Class schedule - individually or in small groups.
I can't promise anything, but if some of you are willing, I'd like to give it a try and see what's possible.
